Manic Monday – 05/5/14

Another edition of Manic Monday, where I recap the previous week and set out goals for the upcoming week.

This week was tough.  I missed a bunch of runs and workouts due to pain in my right foot.  And then my weekend was totally thrown off by the wonderful surprise proposal from my boyfriend fiance, Ben!

Ben and I hit the gym for a quick upper body workout–assisted pull-ups, biceps curls, bent over row, bench press.  This was our first gym trip in several weeks, so we tired out pretty quickly.

This was a scheduled run day, but due to the pain in my foot, I just relaxed.  At this point it was feeling better, but certain shoes (including my running shoes), hurt it more than others.

Still foot pain.  Interestingly enough, it doesn’t hurt at all when I’m sitting, or even running.  Only while walking.  Hmmm.  Also, favoring my foot has caused my ankle and knee to be a little sore.  Not good.

Another scheduled run missed.  My foot was still hurting, so instead of running, I went to my local Fleet Feet store and picked up some lovely new running shoes.  When I got home, I did a few minutes of yoga, plus some stretching and rolling.  Ben also gave me a foot massage, which was AWESOME.

First run in the new shoes.  Intervals and hills.

  • On elevation 2.0:
  • 1 mile warm-up at 6mph
  • Run 8mph for 30 seconds, recover 1 minute at 6mph, repeated 6 times
  • On elevation 5.0, walk at 4mph for 2 minutes
  • Cool down

Unfortunately, it was not the imagined rainbows and awesomeness with the new shoes.  I’m assuming it’s just an adjustment phase since my feet are so used to running with a totally different type of shoe.  I’ll keep you posted.

This was a scheduled long run, but we were out late on Friday night with friends, so I decided to put the run off until Sunday.  I did some yoga, stretching and rolling in the morning, and then headed outside to gather firewood.  We’re having my birthday party this coming Saturday and I wanted to have a bonfire.  This was pretty good exercise all by itself, but then we walked up to the landing at the top of Harvey Road too, which is a ridiculous uphill.  This was where Ben proposed 🙂  Of course, all other plans got totally thrown out the window as we starting calling friends and family.  We had an impromptu engagement party on Saturday night and were up until 4am, so obviously, the long run didn’t happen on Sunday either…

After our exertions the previous night (and morning), we slept until almost noon and pretty much did nothing all day other than meal plan and grocery shop.  We had dinner with some of Ben’s family friends, and more champagne was drunk and toasts were made.  It was an awesome but exhausting weekend.

So as you can see, things didn’t go exactly to plan for a number of reasons, but I’m not at all worried.  I have a few extra weeks built into my training schedule before the Catamount Half, so I should be able to get in enough mileage to feel good about stuff.  Plus, now I have extra motivation to do all my workouts and be in the best shape of my life!

I promise I’m not going to be one of those girls who only talks about wedding planning from now on.  Truth be told, I actually have zero interest in wedding planning.  We’re probably going to have a small ceremony with just our immediate families, and then have a giant party 😀

OK, so.  My goals for this week:

  • CROSS-TRAIN.  My foot injury last week has finally convinced me that it’s not OK to skip workouts, especially cross-training
  • Complete scheduled runs on Tuesday and Thursday (3 miles each)
  • Take the stairs.  My office is on the 5th floor of the building, and it’s got the SLOWEST elevator in the world.  It’s silly to miss out on a fitness opportunity that’s built into my day.
  • HAVE FUN at the Jiggety Jog on Saturday.  This race isn’t about PRs–it’s about raising money for a wonderful organization and honoring Gramma Pat.

Last, but certainly not least, I’m super excited about joining my first ever link-up, The Secret Blogger Club!  Check out the button in my sidebar 🙂

It’s being hosted by The Blonder Side of Life and Welcome to the Nuthouse.  If you’d like to find some awesome new blogs to follow, and hopefully get some more traffic on your blog, head over to the Blonder Side or the Nuthouse and join in the fun!

What are you hoping to accomplish this week?

Great attitude after a not so great fitness week–but I think you are more than justified to miss your long run 😀 Taking the stairs will do great things for your general fitness as well as for your running–get those glutes working and also working on ankle strength and mobility!
    Congrats again!

Thank you! Yeah, those stairs are killer. I thought with all my running that I was in good shape, but after about 3 flights of stairs I was huffing and puffing. Yikes!

Hey! congrats on the engagement! That’s so exciting! 🙂 We had a small wedding and it was just perfect. I am awfully jealous of you girls that get to use Pinterest for your wedding planning! That didn’t exist back when I got married!
Coming on over from the Secret Blogger Club ❤
