Manic Monday – 09/22/14

Welcome to another edition of Manic Monday, where I recap the previous week, and lay out a plan for the upcoming week.

I was definitely riding the struggle bus this week.  Things have been a little nutty in both my personal life and my work life, so my training schedule has suffered a bit.  Thankfully, the work nuttiness will rapidly decrease after this week so I just need to push through, and use my workouts as stress relief.

Monday (Scheduled Cross-Training)
This just didn’t happen.  I honestly don’t even remember what I did on Monday night, but I didn’t work out.

Tuesday (Scheduled 35 Minute Tempo Run)
This went pretty well.  I did 3.6 miles with an average 9:39 pace, which is pretty darn speedy for me.  I tried to make it a little more like outdoor running by putting the treadmill on a hill setting, and it kicked my butt.

Wednesday (Scheduled Body Pump)
I simply didn’t feel like interacting with strangers, so I went hard with 25 minutes on the arc trainer and 25 minutes on the bike.  Then I ate supermarket sushi for dinner, and watched Frozen with my friend Emily while eating copious amounts of ice cream.

Thursday (Scheduled 4 Mile “Easy” Run)
Thursday was a crap day all around.  I forgot my wallet and had to borrow money to buy lunch.  I was also supposed to cook dinner, but because I forgot my wallet, I knew I’d have to go all the way home to get it (40 minutes), and then all the way out to the store for stuff, and home again (another 40 minutes), so I decided to just skip the run and go home.  Mercifully, Ben’s mom heard about my wallet situation and took care of dinner, while I dealt with some wedding-related drama.  Unfortunately, deciding to have a small, simple wedding has not eliminated any of the stress and drama so far :/

Friday (Scheduled Rest Day)
I decided to make up Thursday’s miles with a run along the lake after work.  I didn’t plan out a route and just went without any goals or expectations.  It was an absolutely perfect night for a run, and it helped a lot with bringing my stress levels down.  I also ran into my old Tae Kwon Do master, and he may have convinced me to get back to class a few nights a week 🙂

Saturday (Scheduled Long Run)
Yeah, this didn’t happen.  I decided sleep was much more important to me, and slept till 10, had a leisurely breakfast, and went WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING WITH MY MOMMY!  It was awesome.  And yes, I found a dress.  But no, you don’t get to see it.  But, I will be posting some of the other dresses here just for funsies 🙂

Saturday night was lots of fun, but in retrospect, I went way too hard.  It was two of our friends’ joint birthday party bar crawl scavenger hunt and I had WAY too much to drink.  As a result, Sunday was pretty much a wash.

Sunday (Scheduled Rest Day)
I had every intention of making up my 8 miles after sleeping in and refueling, but Mr. Hangover had other ideas; namely, a 3 hour nap, lots of moping, video games, and ice cream.  So yeah, I will not be drinking that much again for a loooooooong time.  However, in my defense, at least my team won the scavenger hunt 😉

So, I’m going to be making up my 8 miles today, which will be the longest distance I’ve ever run mid-week.  Should be interesting.  My mantra this week is “Just keep swimming.”

This week:

  • Monday:  8 miles (make-up long run)
  • Tuesday:  6 x 400
  • Wednesday:  Some form of cross-training.  Body pump?
  • Thursday:  5 miles easy
  • Friday:  Rest
  • Saturday:  9 miles LSD
  • Sunday:  Rest/yoga

    My scheduled 12 miler yesterday was put on hold for beer and football…not a good start to marathon training.

    But looks at you Ms. speedy McSpeedster! You’re EASILY gonna kill that sub 2:30 goal! You’re gonna leave me behind and run off (literally) with the other speedy ladies: Lisa, Kim and Nicole 🙂

    haha … haven’t done a pub crawl since senior year of college … and haven’t had much of hangover since a couple of years out of school (esp after losing weight and my tolerance with it! haha )

    I think you still had a good week – half of it is keeping yourself accountable. Not every day goes according to plan .. and some days another glass of wine or more ice cream really is the right thing!

    As for my longest weekday run, I have done up to 10.75 miles on my early morning runs. Kinda nuts to be home by 6AM having already done that … but hey, that’s me 🙂

    Nice! Way to go! Hope you enjoyed those 400’s 😉 Furthest I’ve gone on a weekday was 17 miles. Was supposed to do it on the weekend but knew I wouldn’t have time. That made for a tired day at work!!!! And yes, I’ve done some bar crawls. In college we did ‘the shuffle’ – go to all 20+ bars on campus in one day and have at least one drink in each. We wore shirts with all the bars names on it and had people sign it along the way. You end up with marker from head to toe. Haha

    Rock on with that tempo run!! Just the thought of holding that pace for 35 minutes makes me tired!

    Heh, I tried a pub crawl once, during my semester abroad after final exams were done. Drinks weren’t cheap, and none of us liked beer, so after each getting a rum and coke at the first pub, we’d buy one drink per pub and pass it around to take sips. So not really a traditional pub crawl! 😉
