Holiday Running Playlist

If you know me at all, you know it’s no secret that I’m unabashedly obsessed with Christmas music.  Each year, I scour the internets for the best new Christmas songs, and ask my friends for recommendations.  Each year, I painstakingly craft an epic Christmas playlist to embody my feelings about that year’s Christmas season.  And I listen to holiday music pretty much exclusively from Black Friday through New Year’s Day.  My iTunes account contains approximately 12 hours worth of Christmas and holiday tunes.  And still I want more…

This year, I thought it would be fun to combine my love of making running playlists with my love of making Christmas playlists.  Thus, my holiday running playlist was born.  I think it’s a decent mix of classic and modern, old and new.  I hope you like it!

Christmas in the Sand – Colbie Caillait

Don’t Shoot Me Santa Claus – The Killers

All I Want for Christmas (Is You) – Mariah Carey

I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm – Bette Midler

Merry Christmas Baby – Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Snoopy’s Christmas – The Royal Guardsmen

Run Run Rudolph – Chuck Berry

The Man With the Bag – Vonda Shepard

Lady Gaga – Christmas Tree

Michael Buble – Let it Snow

Barenaked Ladies feat. Sarah Maclachlan – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

What’s your favorite holiday/Christmas song?

Have you ever tried running with Christmas music?

Great list! Run Run Rudolph has got to be the best holiday song for running, ever 🙂 One of the people I ran the Jingle Bell run with was listening to Christmas music and I thought that was a great idea – I’d never thought of it!

My favorite Christmas songs (I can’t choose just one!) are very non-traditional, but I ❤ them: Fairytale of New York by the Pogues, Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid (the original), Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses, Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth by Bing Crosby and David Bowie, and Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade.

LOVE IT!!! Last year I made a Christmas running playlist and took it out on my run Christmas Day with my ridiculous holiday socks. It was awesome and made me feel so festive!

Great fun list! I don’t run with music, but we will always have something playing. We still have a stack of CDs (from Bing, Sinatra and Nat King Cole to George Winston to Amy Grant to Wynton Marsalis to Barbara Streisand and more … ), but just as often pop on a playlist on Spotify or Slacker.

We do miss ‘Music Choice’ on Time Warner … we cut back on our cable level (because we weren’t using most channels) and the music choice stations were the big loss … well, for about a month. They play totally random assortments (all the awful pop Christmas albums like Justin Beiber’s Christmas) along with a bunch of factoids on screen ..

I love running to christmas music! I actually have one christmas song that is on my long run playlist year round (Christmas/Sarajevo 12/24 by Trans-Siberian Orchestra). It always makes me smile when it comes up on a super hot day. I feel a little crazy, and a little like I’ve got a secret that no one could guess. 🙂
