I get to take my first spin class this weekend, for free! One of the women in the Legally Blonde cast owns Rev Indoor Cycling studio, and she is hosting a free 45 minutes class for anyone in the show from 11:45-12:15 tomorrow. I’ve never taken a spin class before, and I’m really excited. I talked a bit in Tuesday’s post about trying to incorporate more cross-training and classes into my comprehensive fitness/wellness plan, so I’ll be interested to see how spin goes. I’ve heard it’s pretty intense. I doubt I’ll end up getting a membership to Rev though, because my gym offers spin classes that are included in my monthly membership fee, and I’m too cheap to pay for yet another membership. And speaking of Legally Blonde…
Every muscle in my body hurts. We started choreography for the “Whipped Into Shape” number. For those of you who don’t know, it’s ALL jump rope. And not just regular up and down, but swinging, whipping, crossing, double-undering and more. I made the brilliant decision to run three miles prior to rehearsal on Monday night, where I then jumped rope for almost 3 straight hours. On a concrete floor. Ouch. And I get to do it again tonight. The good news is, I expect to be a hardbody by the time this show is over, especially if I keep up with running and group fitness classes outside of rehearsals. You can get a peek at sort of what we’re doing in the video below.
I had another ocular migraine yesterday. The timing is kind of eerie, because I had my first one EXACTLY two weeks prior. I’m going to start tracking them so if they increase in frequency or become sort of regular I can go to my doctor and try to figure out what’s causing them and how to prevent them.
Ben is done student teaching, yaaaay! Now all he has to do is complete his portfolio and he’ll have his teaching license by the end of March. This is exciting on so many levels, not the least of which is that he will soon be able to start applying for jobs, and once he gets a job, we can start thinking about moving out on our own again. It’s not that I don’t love my in-laws or enjoy living with them, but I miss my Kitchen-Aid mixer, dammit!
yay!! Great week for you Rae (minus the migraine). Def. track everything–weather/air pressure, food, sleep, period, exercise. It’s a lot of work, but the docs will want that information (as someone who has done migraine tracking for a good portion of her life).
Good advice. Fingers crossed that it’s not an ongoing thing
I agree. Def. cross your fingers. Also, for pain management, grab a cold can (coke, pepsi, beer, whatever)….I find it numbs out some of the pain quite effectively.
I would fail miserably at the jumping rope quotient. SO BAD.
It’s surprisingly difficult! And exhausting! It’s like, “Oh, yeah, jump rope. I did that for hours as a kid, how bad can it be?” Answer: BAD!
I don’t know how similar the causes of ocular migraines are to regular migraines, but regular migraines have lots of food triggers. My mom gets them if she eats too much chocolate (like, a lot of chocolate), or MSG (or autolyzed yeast extract, which is basically MSG and is in a lot of “no MSG” prepared foods). I get them from lentils. If food triggers are a possibility, I would suggest keeping a food journal for a month so you can compare any similarities in your eating on migraine days. I hope you get this figured out!! I’m jealous that your migraines come without pain, but not that they come without vision…
Woah, I had no idea food could be a trigger! This suddenly got a lot more complicated. I’m sorry you suffer from migraine headaches–I can’t even imagine how sucky that is.
I have only had a few in my life, which is lucky. My mom started getting them around my age and gets at least one a month.
That’s really stinky 😦
Jumping rope sounds intense!
Boo headache!
Yay student teaching completion!
Sounds like a pretty full week there
It was, for sure! I’m looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow morning!
Man, the workouts for the show sound intense! You’re totally going to be wicked ripped when it’s done 🙂 Congrats to Ben for finishing student teaching!
I’ll only be ripped if I can manage to stop eating ALL THE FOODS! I’m working on it 🙂
That number looks crazy!!! They are definitely working you hard. I couldn’t jump rope to save my life!
Congrats to your hubby for getting ever closer to having his teaching license! That’s exciting news. I can actually understand the whole living with in-laws thing. I don’t mention it on my blog but I also live with my boyfriend’s brother. I seriously can’t wait until we’re ready to move into our own house because it’ll just be nice to finally be the two of us.
Jumping rope is seriously a crazy workout! I hope you and your boyfriend are able to get out on your own soon too!
Ok, my feet hurt just reading about all the jump roping! They don’t even out down mats in the beginning? Ouch.
It’s not my feet so much as my shins and calves. Thank goodness for compression socks and my foam roller!
That jump roping sounds so intense! And, Yaaaay for Ben!
So intense. My shins are very sad. And thank you!
HOORAY BEN!! That’s great news!
I can’t believe you jumped rope for that long. I decided to try to jump rope at the gym recently and I couldn’t even handle it for 10 seconds. I imagine I would never walk again after doing it for three hours.
I was old lady walking most of the week. Ouch!
