Y’all, I got some super exciting news on Sunday. You may recall that I had an audition last week. I went out for Florence, the lead female role in Chess the Musical, and I FREAKING GOT THE PART!
This part is super meaty. Lots of excellent songs and some really serious shit happens to the character. It’s also a part that has been sung by my idol, Idina Menzel, of Frozen fame. I’ve been a fan of hers since long before Frozen came out, and to get to sing some of the same songs as her is a total dream come true.
This definitely isn’t the big leagues–this is a small show in a small theater in a small town. But it feels SO COOL! I feel like a rock star. I’ve never actually had a leading part in a community show in Vermont before, and I’m SO EXCITED to get to show people what I can do.
Here’s a little taste of the kick butt stuff I’ll be up to this summer 😀
Another reason I’m so excited is because this is just one more reason to stay healthy and keep up with my running and cross-training. This type of rock and roll singing is incredibly athletic. Yes, you read that right, singing can be athletic. I’ll need to stay super hydrated all the time, and have a strong core to support scream singing my face off. IT’S GONNA BE AWESOME!
Have you ever been in a play or musical? Would you?
WOW! Congrats! I love Idina. Saw her on Broadway in If/Then.
Thanks! I love her too, but I’ve never gotten to see her perform live. If/Then must have been awesome!
Awesome! Congrats Rachel!
Funny, though – yesterday on Facebook I was reading an update from a friend of mine who had auditioned for a role in Chess, the role of Anatoly the Russian … and he got it!
So tell Erik I said ‘hi’ 🙂
OMG you know Erik? That’s so wild! He and I have known each other for over a decade! Crazy! What a small world.
In his one year (freshman) at RPI in 1986 he joined my fraternity (he was also a legacy) before moving back to VT. So he is a fraternity brother and I’ve known him for almost 30 years 🙂 Amazing, eh?
That is amazing. I’ll be sure to tell him hi!
CONGRATS!! I am so excited for you! That is an incredible opportunity, and you BETTER post a video of you 😀
It may be against copyright laws to post video, but I’ll probably have to chance it 😉
DUDE!!!!! Congratulations!!! This is awesome! 😀 I was in the chorus for “Leader of the Pack” in 8th grade, and I was in a tiny one-act performance of “Our Town” during college, but I’m not very good with the acting and I can’t carry a tune to save my life. So I think my stage days are over… I’ll leave it to the talented peeps like you! 😉
Thank you! I’m really excited! And oh my goodness, Leader of the Pack must have been so fun!
You’re going to blow Menzel out of the water, no one will even remember her when you’re done, Rae!
Ha, I appreciate your confidence, but there’s no one quite like her 🙂
SO AWESOME!!! Congratulations!!! I am so impressed with all your talent and I know you’ll be perfect for the part. I love Idina Menzel too. 😀
Thanks, lady! I’m excited and nervous and all of those emotions! Thankfully rehearsals don’t start until after Legally Blonde is over so I have time to compose myself, haha!
Congrats!!!! That’s soo exciting!!
Thank you! I can’t wait to start rehearsing 🙂
I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!! YOU ARE GOING TO BE SO FREAKING AMAZING!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! 🙂
THANK YOU! I’m still floating on Cloud 9!
That’s awesome, congratulations!!!
Thank you! I seriously couldn’t be more excited.
Yay! Congrats!
Thanks! 😀
Congratulations! That’s amazing! A show is a show and being the lead is something to be so proud of no matter what 🙂 I’m sure you will be amazing! I’ve always had stage fright and done better as part of the orchestra/band section that no one watches lol
Thank you! And being in the orchestra/band is still really awesome. I couldn’t do anything on stage without the musicians. I’ve always been envious of people who can play an instrument.
Congrats! That is so amazing! I first heard Idina when I saw Wicked in London years ago and bought the original cast recording. Love her!
I love her too–I’m so pumped!
