What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 07/27/15: Rest Day | Rest Day
Not much to say other than “nailed it.”
Tuesday 07/28/15: Walk/Run Intervals with Emily | 3 slow, easy miles
Emily bowed out of our intervals because it was really hot–almost 90 degrees, with about 50% humidity. I decided to tough it out and go for an easy run. By the time I got home, I was drenched in sweat, and it took me a long time to cool down, but I’m glad I went nonetheless.
Wednesday 7/29/15: 4.5 Miles Moderate | Rest
I was unable to pry myself out of bed for a morning run, it was too hot to run at lunch (in the 90’s with high humidity), and I didn’t have time to run between work and rehearsal, so this became an unscheduled rest day.
Thursday 07/30/15: Run Club Track Workout | Run Club Hill Repeats
It was super hot and humid, so I ended up being the only person who showed up. Coach Eric had hills on the schedule, and gave me the choice of a big, long hill that was farther away, or a steep, short hill that was closer. I chose the big one. I regretted it later, haha. Our “warm up” was running two miles, mostly uphill, to get to the hill. Then two repeats, then two miles back, mostly uphill. All told, it was about 5.5 miles. I walked a lot of the recovery, but even so, ended up with an average pace of 11:11 per mile, which I think is pretty damn good.
Friday 07/31/15: Rest | Rest
Sweet, sweet rest day. How I needed thee after Thursday’s hill repeats. We went to our friends’ BBQ and I had a few drinks, which was a mistake because…
Saturday 08/01/15: 3 Miles Easy | 4 Miles “Easy”
I put that “easy” in quotation marks because even though I was taking it slow, this was a tough run. I had to get up early to go to a voice lesson (which actually, surprisingly went really well in spite of the drinks), and then drove over to the trails and ran my miles with a SPLITTING headache. Damn you, booze!
Sunday 08/02/15: Rest | Rest
I slept in, had a nice breakfast, then went to another BBQ down by the lake with some theater people before the Chess photo shoot in the evening. It was only a little awkward, thankfully. I’ll be interested to see what the finished products look like.
Overall, this was a great week for me. I was able to get in 4 runs, which is exactly what I’m going for. I still would like to be getting in more (any) cross-training, especially because the Spartan race is slowly but surely creeping up on me. I’m still doing a few modified pull up exercises a week, but that’s not going to be enough. Ugh. My schedule is getting more and more packed with every passing week. As much as I’m excited for Chess, I’m also excited for it to be over and to have my life back.

- Thursday: Run Club speed workout
- Friday: Rest
- Saturday: 6.5 miles slow
