What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 08/24/15: 3 Miles Easy | 3.4 Miles Easy
This was my first run in over a week, and while it took a bit to settle into a rhythm, it still felt amazing.
Tuesday 08/25/15: Rest | Rest
I had a killer headache all day Monday and all day Tuesday, so I was happy to just go home and relax after work. I think I was still just overtired and stressed out because of the show.
Wednesday 08/26/15: Run/Walk Intervals with Emily | 37 Minutes/2.5 Miles Intervals
Emily had to take two weeks off running due to her torn rotator cuff, but she still busted out this run like a champion! We’re officially running longer intervals than walking, and I’m such a proud coach. She’s really determined to meet her goal, and I’m determined to get her there healthy and happy.
Thursday 08/27/15: 3 Miles Easy | Rest
Second week of Chess performance kicked off, and I didn’t want to try to cram a run in, so I just rested and got myself ready.
Friday 08/28/15: Rest | Rest
I was wiped after Thursday night’s performance, so I elected not to get up early or try to cram in a runch.
Saturday 08/29/15: Rest | Rest
Two show days are incredibly taxing at the best of times, but with a show like this, where I’m running the emotional extreme gamut and singing my face off, anything extra would be too much.
Sunday 08/30/15: 4.5 Miles Moderate | Rest
Yeah, I slept until 11:30, by which point it was too hot to run. We also had to head out to Ben’s parents’ place to do some prep for the pig roast, then grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and early to bed.
I’m beginning to think I’ve bitten off a bit more than I can chew for the coming weeks. I haven’t been keeping up with my running, our apartment is a mess, and I’m booked solid for every single weekend in September with races, voice lessons, and family events. Stay tuned for a life update post later this week that will go into more detail.
Despite the insanity, I’m going to attempt to get a few runs in this week. Here’s the plan:
- Monday: 3 miles easy
- Tuesday: Run/walk intervals with Emily
- Wednesday: 3 miles easy
- Thursday: Rest (Chess performance)
- Friday: Rest (Chess performance)
- Saturday: Rest (Chess performance x2 plus morning voice lesson)
- Sunday: Rest (Clean and prep for pig roast)
How do you stay on track with your training when life gets busy?
Make it happen when you can. Build the training around the days when you know that it just won’t happen.
Yeah, I pretty much know it won’t happen at all on a show day. Oy!
Then embrace it and when you can run, make it count. 🙂
I try to use my weekends to plan for the week. I prep my meals if I can, do all of my grocery shopping and my chores (those come last, haha). If I can have a productive weekend, then my week usually goes a lot more smoothly! But sometimes, life just happens. Don’t be too hard on yourself, you are doing GREAT!
Thank you so much! I’m doing the best I can right now, and I know the insanity is temporary.
You are doing great, and I know the struggle. Just keep moving forward, and don’t try to “make it up” unless you are just switching days. For me, it is all about keeping things so that they are still a pleasure, rather than an onus.
Yes yes and YES.
I second that feeling. September is supposed to be my peak month before my race but I have work or volunteer events or races every single weekend. What was I thinking? You still got some good runs in and some great performances, so that’s an awesome week!
Thanks, lady! I feel like I’m barely holding it together, but I suppose it could be worse.
It’s so hard to find time. When I get desperate, I just go whenever I have a moment, no matter what. In the heat, in the dark, way too early…just have to get it in. But with that said, I am known to just skip a run if I’m really busy. I don’t like to have it be stress.
Exactly–it’s supposed to be enjoyable.
