What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 09/07/15: Rest | Rest
After our overexertions at the cast party on Saturday night, Ben and I were both still exhausted, so we slept in late. We took care of a few necessary things around the house, then went to the lake for a bit, reading and soaking up some sun. Then we spent the rest of the day relaxing at home with a few beers, and hit the hay early.
Tuesday 09/08/15: 3 Miles Easy | Easy 5k
I was happy to get out and run despite the extra-high humidity. Immediately upon returning home, I cracked a beer, and all was right with the world.
Wednesday 09/09/15: 4 Miles Moderate | 6 Miles Easy
I knew that the 9 mile long run my training plan had scheduled just wasn’t going to happen this weekend, so I decided to do a medium long run to sort of make up for it. It was another super humid night, but I managed to finish with a very consistent overall pace, and didn’t totally want to die when I got home. I stretched really well, rolled a bit with my Addaday Pro Roller, and did a few resistance band glute exercises because my right hip has been bothering me quite a bit lately, and I don’t want to end up with a full-blown injury.
Thursday 09/10/15: Sh’Bam | Zumba
My friend who usually teaches Sh’Bam was off in Montreal at a Madonna concert, so my office/gym buddy Freda and I decided to take the Zumba class that was being held instead. Definitely not as much fun as Sh’Bam, but still a great workout, and the instructor was awesome–another theatre kid, naturally 😉
Friday 09/11/15: Rest | Rest
I thought about getting up early to squeeze in another short run, but I had a hard time falling asleep on Thursday night, so that went right out the window. I left work early and we headed out to Underhill to finalize pig roast preparations and hang out with our families.
Saturday 09/12/15: Rest | Rest
PIG ROAST! It was a long, super fun day. Everything went as well as it possibly could have, and a good time was had by all. Even though it was stressful, I’m SO glad we followed through and did it.
Sunday 09/13/15: Rest | Rest
Cleaning and sleeping were the words of the day. Thankfully, everyone pitched in, so cleanup wasn’t too tough. We hung out at my in-laws for a while, then headed home to clean up and put away all the leftovers. We’ve got lots of delicious pork, tons of beer, and a smorgasbord of leftover snacky foods, so we’re set for a few days.
Now that the pig roast is over, I can commence freaking out about the Spartan race on Sunday. Oy. I honestly have no idea what to do with myself this week or what to expect. I’m just going to try to eat well, get plenty of sleep, hydrate, and hope I don’t die. Here’s the tentative plan:
- Monday: Body Pump
- Tuesday: Short run
- Wednesday: Short run + first tap class!
- Thursday: Rest
- Friday: Short run
- Saturday: Rest
- Sunday: Spartan Sprint
Unfortunately, my schedule is about to get thrown out of whack all over again–Ben’s parents are leaving for two weeks in Europe on Tuesday, and we’re house-sitting for them. I’ll be splitting my time between Burlington and Underhill, which means that I’ll be commuting again. This may mean more gym time/treadmill running, or it may mean less training overall because I’m spending more time in a car. We’ll see how it goes!
Have you ever been to a pig roast?
Anyone else headed to Killington for the Spartan races this weekend?
no but sounds like fun. Good luck getting back into your running routine.
Thank you. I’m hoping to get myself back on track soon!
I’ve never been to a pig roast (I did go to a bar in Southie that offers a roast pig as a menu option, and I took part in that as part of a bday party, but I don’t think that’s really the same) but they seem like a ton of work! A friend of mine hosted one recently, and she found a company in NH that does nearly everything for you. Still I think it managed to be stressful, haha… it’s a lot going on for sure!
Thankfully, Ben’s family has done DOZENS of pig roasts, so his uncles pretty much took care of everything. It was awesome. SO tasty 😀
