What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 09/14/15: Body Pump | At-Home Strength
Once I got home after work, I just didn’t feel like leaving. I made dinner and read for a while, then did some resistance band exercises for my glutes and hips, and some push-ups. Not much, but better than nothing.
Tuesday 09/15/15: Short Run | 15 Minutes Core
First thing when I woke up, I did a 15 minute core workout of my own design, just a random mish-mash. I was going to run with Emily, but I woke up with a sore throat and felt progressively worse as the day went on. I left work at noon and just dozed all afternoon. Went to bed at 9pm but was so congested I didn’t really sleep. Ugh.
Wednesday 09/16/15: Short Run + Tap Class | Tap Class
After pretty much not sleeping the previous night, and still feeling like heck, I decided not to run, but still went to work. My crazy conscience won’t allow me to skip work and still go to tap class, and I REALLY wanted to go to my first tap class. It was the most fun. The hour flew by and I can’t wait for next week!
Thursday 09/17/15: Rest | 2 Treadmill Miles
I can’t lie, this run was tough. Whether it was running on a treadmill for the first time in 6 months, or that I set an ambitious pace, or that I hadn’t run in a week, I don’t know. I intended to hit 5k but just couldn’t do it.
Friday 09/18/15: Short Run | 45 Minutes Elliptical
After my less-than-stellar run on Thursday, I decided to just do something else to get moving. I hadn’t ellipticized in months, but I (finally!) started listening to the podcast “Serial” and before I knew it 45 minutes was up.
Saturday 09/19/15: Rest | Rest
Hey look, I finally did what was on the schedule! I ran around a bit doing errands and picking up snacks and fuel for the Spartan, but mostly I just took it easy all day.
Sunday 09/20/15: Spartan Sprint | Spartan Sprint
You’ll have to wait for a full recap later this week, but for now let’s just say, “Holy crap I’m sore,” and, “I wouldn’t say no to doing it again.”
The focus for this week is to really, truly, once and for all get back on track with half marathon training. Things have been pretty loosey-goosey for the last few weeks, and if I still want to attempt a PR half marathon the weekend before W&D, I’ve got lots of work to do. Here’s the plan for this week:
- Monday: REST and recover from Spartan
- Tuesday: Slow, short run with Emily (holy crap the Color Run is this weekend!)
- Wednesday: Short run + tap class
- Thursday: Medium run + Sh’Bam
- Friday: Rest
- Saturday: Color Run + 6 miles for 9 total
- Sunday: Yoga/recovery
When’s the last time you ran on a treadmill?
Would you ever do/have you ever done a Spartan Race?
