What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 10/12/15: Rest | Rest
It was my mother in law’s 60th birthday, so Ben and I went out to a very fancy dinner with my in-laws. We had a great time, and I don’t regret any of the carbs and sugar I ate and drank 🙂
Tuesday 10/13/15: 3 Miles | 3 Miles
This run was WAY better than I was expecting after a week off. My overall pace was about 9:30, which for me is pretty dang speedy. I think my legs were feeling fresh after some time off, and the weather was perfect, so I was just in the zone.
Wednesday 10/14/15: Tap Class | Tap Class
Oy, I seriously need to start practicing outside of class. It gets incrementally harder each week, and I want to keep doing well.
Thursday 10/15/15: Run Club Speed Workout | 6 x 400 with 2 Mile Warm-Up and 1+ Mile Cool-Down; Total 4.8 Miles
This workout totally rekindled my running spark. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed speed work until I was in the middle of running a 400, breathing hard and feeling so strong and awesome. I was tired at the end, but not totally wrecked; it felt amazing!
Friday 10/16/15: Rest | Rest
After work, I went home for a quick dinner, then headed out to the theater in Stowe to see a one-man show put on by one of my parents’ college buddies. Afterwards, I was supposed to catch a show at a local bar, but I was too tired and just went home to bed.
Saturday 10/17/15: Run Club 4 Miles | Run Club 4 Miles
I was so happy to go to run club again, see my friends, and run a speedy (for me) 4 miles. When I was about half a mile from the end, my super fast buddy Allen came back to run me in. It was great because we finished A LOT faster than I would have on my own–I finished at an 8:20 pace! The rest of the day was spent at my friends Julia and Andrew’s place watching Hocus Pocus, carving pumpkins, and drinking cocktails. It was delightful.
Sunday 10/18/15: 11 Mile Long Run | Rest
Surprise, surprise, I skipped my long run. I slept. I cleaned. I watched movies. I ate. I have no regrets.
I’m three weeks out from Wine and Dine, and even though I’ve only completed one double digit training run, I feel fine. Great, even. Last week sort of rekindled my love of running, and I plan to keep running short to medium distances between now and Disney. I have no doubt that race-day adrenaline, combined with the fun of running with Team Can-Am, will get me across the finish line. Here’s the plan for this week:
- Monday: Body Pump
- Tuesday: 3 miles
- Wednesday: Tap Class
- Thursday: Sh’Bam or run club speed workout
- Friday: Rest (Traveling to MA for a funeral)
- Saturday: Rest (Traveling back from MA)
- Sunday: ??
Sunday is a bit up in the air because I have a voice lesson first thing in the morning, then a makeup workshop for White Christmas, so I’m not sure how I’ll be feeling or what else I’ll get up to on Sunday. I may run some miles, I may not. Either way, it’s all good.
When’s the last time you did a speed workout?
I see lots of running in this week of workouts and I LOVE IT! Nice job, lady! Smoked the speed work!!!
Thank you! It felt SO GOOD!
8 minute pace – Whoa! You’re fast! Looks like you’re back!
I think so–and that’s not my usual speed at all, haha!
One part of me wants to tell you to do the work if you are feeling well and able, the other part of me understands. Ultimately, I am not your coach, I am your friend, so do you 😀
Hehe, if I decide to run a marathon next year, I may actually have to hire you to coach my lazy ass, cause otherwise I don’t know how I’m gonna make it happen.
I love speed workouts too 🙂 They might be what I’m most looking forward to for when I’m back to running again!
They just make me feel so good! I can’t wait for you to get back out there.
Oh birthday cake was my weakness this weekend. 😃. Awesome running! So happy to here you are enjoying running again.
Me too, Fallon, me too. I hope the cake was delicious 😉
Great job on your speed work! I haven’t done speed work in a while since I didn’t do any when I was marathon training. Sounds like you’ll do great at Wine and Dine!
I don’t think I’d do speed work while marathon training either–it’s quite enough already just getting the miles in!
I feel like it’s been ages since I did any good speed work. Great job!
Thank you! I’m sure you’ll get back at it soon–just focus on staying healthy for now!
Attempted to do a 9-miler Saturday, but we know how that went. 10 on tap for this weekend and hoping it goes much better. Only two more runs before W&D! Whooooo hooooo!!!!!! #teamcanamshenanigans
I can’t wait!!!
GREAT job! I need to get better at working on speed!
I’ve been slacking on it big time. Hoping to make Thursday night workouts more regularly.
