What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 10/19/15: Body Pump | 5k Easy
My gym buddy bailed on class, so I bailed too and just went for a run. I felt good the whole time, and running right after work meant that I still had all evening to cook dinner and relax with Ben.
Tuesday 10/20/15: 3 Miles Easy | Active Rest
I spent about an hour and a half choreographing a can-can dance for a work event, so even though it wasn’t a full workout, I didn’t exactly spend all evening sitting on my butt.
Wednesday 10/21/15: Tap Class | Tap Class
We’re finally getting to the point where I can actually call this class a workout. We’ve started the dance combination for our “showcase” (basically a super-short recital), and it’s really fun.
Thursday 10/22/15: Run Club Speed Workout | Rest
I was just not able to get motivated after work. I wish these Thursday night runs were closer to me; they’re in the next town over, and traffic is always really, really bad at that time of day. Thursday night, the though of sitting in traffic for 20-30 minutes just did not appeal to me at all. Instead, we went to a local bar to watch the Seahawks/49ers game and eat free wings.
Friday 10/23/15: Rest | Rest
After work, I headed down to Massachusetts. My childhood pastor, Robbie, passed away last weekend after a long battle with cancer, and I wanted to be there for the funeral on Saturday. I was blessed to be able to stay with my best friend and her family, so even though it was a sad occasion, I got to spend time with some people I consider to be extensions of my own family.
Saturday 10/24/15: Rest | Rest
The memorial service was lovely. Lots of tears and lots of laughter. There was a luncheon afterwards, and then I made a quick stop at Target before heading home. I watched some Halloween movies at a friend’s house, and was in bed before midnight.
Sunday 10/25/15: Rest | Rest
I had a voice lesson at 9 am, then had to fly out of there to get to my 10 am makeup workshop for White Christmas the musical. I’m excited to be helping out with a show in a different capacity than being onstage. It’s a SIGNIFICANTLY smaller time commitment, but I still get to be part of the fun of show week, and spend some time with my friends.
Needless to say, “training” hasn’t really been happening lately. I’ve had some good runs and good alternative workouts, and I’m just going with the flow. I’m planning to do a follow up post later this week, but I’m basically having a hard time finding a routine. I think once work FINALLY calms down after this week, and once Wine and Dine is over, I’ll be able to regroup and re-evaluate.
This week’s plan:
- Monday: Body Pump or short run (if gym buddy bails)
- Tuesday: Short run
- Wednesday: Tap class
- Thursday: Rest (I have to work late)
- Friday: Short Run
- Saturday: Run club 4 miles
- Sunday: Rest
How do you create and stick to a workout routine? I need all the help I can get right now…
So sorry to hear about your pastor. 😦 Body pump is a lot of fun. I did that a couple years ago and really liked it.
Thanks for your kind words. Body Pump is a lot of fun, especially if you have a good instructor.
Sorry to hear about the lost of your pastor but happy to hear you could be there for the memorial service.
I’m really wanting to get to a body pump class but it just never works out for me. Right now since I’m not training for anything I feel like my workouts might slide a bit and I’m okay with that but only for so long. I need to focus on staying injured-free and it’s not going so well so I’m motivated by that.
Thanks, Anna. I hear you on the training thing. My next half is almost here and I’m totally bum sliding through the end of training. I’ll hopefully be picking back up soon!
So sorry for your loss. I’ve found the key to anything is being flexible. Life happens and often trumps our workouts! xoxo
That’s for sure!
❤
Training? What’s that? Oof I’ve hit a big mental block with that right now. I’m trying to dig my way out. I think I need some sort of accountability other than myself. 🙃.
I am sorry for you loss, it’s good that you were able to go to the memorial.
Thanks, Fallon, I’m really glad I could make it.
I usually make a spreadsheet with my training plan and *try* to follow it. I hate opening up the spreadsheet and seeing what I didn’t do on there so I usually just do it. That helps me. But it looks like you are still doing a lot of super fun workouts!!! You know I love your tap class!!!
I usually write the runs in my planner, and if I complete them I put a little star sticker on it. There aren’t many stars in my planner right now…
Hahah I love the star idea though!! That would make me feel like such a champion, LOL!
It is weirdly motivational!
I’m sorry to hear about Robbie 😦 I’m pretty useless generally with sticking to training plans of any kind… I really need to print out a calendar (or find a cheap one or whatever) that I can reward myself with stickers on because I feel like that might be helpful for me, heh. We’ll see!
I do the sticker thing, and sometimes it’s helpful, sometimes it’s not. But if I’m going to be successful with this marathon, I NEED to stick to The Plan.
