FFFA (1)

I have finally found a chafing solution. Those of you who follow me on Instagram probably saw this post, and hopefully got a good chuckle out of it:

This is what #marathontraining has reduced me to: #buttshield. God I hope it works. #thechafeisreal #2toms

Silly name aside, this stuff WORKS. After my ten miler a couple of weeks ago I had chafing in my nethers so bad that it hurt to walk around wearing any kind of pants. I was miserable for days. Regular old Body Glide just wasn’t cutting it for me. I haven’t looked too closely at the ingredients in this stuff for fear that it’s got lots of funky chemical in it, but it works so well that I almost can’t care.

I’ve got 12 miles on the schedule tomorrow. After conquering 10 miles a few weeks ago, and then my freezing cold, miserable 11 miler, I’m sort of split on this. On the one hand, I feel confident that I can tackle it, and on the other, there’s a lot of anxiety. At least the weather is looking good; 32 and sunny. Speaking of weather…

This winter has been completely bi-polar. Yesterday, it was 50 degrees and sunny. Today, it’s 23 degrees with a cold north wind. What gives? I try not to complain about the weather because I generally like all the seasons. But this? This is neither winter nor spring, and I dislike it. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, NATURE!

I have added some new companies and races to my “Discounts” page. Definitely check it out. Recent additions include 2Toms (they make the Butt Shield pictured above), and the Willamantic Classic in Connecticut.

I’m trying something new in the mornings. I left my phone, (which acts as my alarm clock) on the other side of the room last night, rather than on my bedside table. For many years, I’ve been a “snoozer,” meaning that I set my alarm, but hit snooze several times before actually getting up. I never used to be this way, but after dating a serial snoozer, the habit formed. This means that most mornings, I’m rushing around and don’t have time for things and usually end up late for work. By moving my phone across the room, I actually had to get out of bed to turn it off, and hey, at that point, I’m already up, so why bother snoozing and going back to bed? This morning I had time to blow-dry my hair, make a smoothie, AND pack a lunch, and still got to work on time. Winning! Hopefully I can keep this up.

Has the weird winter weather got you down?

Do you have a hard time getting up in the morning like me?

I’ve used the skin shield, same company. And I love it so much better than body glide. I wonder if they are different ingredients? I’ll have to try to find it!

Ha – I just posted on IG/FB how something is up recently that I have gotten a couple of waistline chafing lines … always fun to discover it stepping into the shower OUCH! 🙂

I’m sure most people would find this annoying – I know Lisa does occasionally – but I am a ‘spring out of bed’ person. My alarm goes off at 3:45 (~25% of time I am awake already) and I just get up, put on my running base layer, head downstairs for the morning routine. Most normal people need a few minutes to wake up … I am ‘annoyingly awake and perky’ from the minute I awake. And surprisingly no one has killed me (yet).

Yeah, the bipolar winter is definitely annoying – just start to hit a groove and BAM, it changes! But … on the other hand neither of those poles is ‘-17F’ which is what TimeHop told me was the temperature a year ago … for the 4th day -15F or lower that week … so I’ll take ‘bipolar but mild’ over ‘Polar Vortex’ any day!

Late to the party here – catching up on reading blogs! I tried the keeping-the-alarm-across-the-room thing during college. It seemed like a great idea, except I was so tired that I’d get up, cross the room, turn off the alarm (not even a snooze), and climb back into bed. It was so dangerous that I went back to keeping it close enough to snooze. Hopefully you have better luck! 🙂
