Leaf Peepers Half Marathon Training Week 3
What Was Planned vs. What Happened
Monday 07/25/16: Yoga or Spin | Rest
Another yoga-less Monday due to working at Athleta. Whomp whomp. I’ll get back to it eventually. I tried to walk at lunch, but it started raining before I’d been out 10 minutes, so that was a no-go too.
Tuesday 07/26/16: 4 Miles + Legs | 4 Miles @ 10:28 Pace + Legs
The run was fine. Four miles is sort of my new normal for easy runs. Afterwards, I did 3 x 10 step ups onto a chair (each side), 3 x 10 calf raises, 3 x 10 body weight squats, and 3 x 10 one-legged balance things that I have no idea what they’re called. In the moment it didn’t seem like much, but when I tried to take the stairs at work today, I felt it!
Wednesday 07/27/16: Yoga or Spin | Walk at Lunch
My 6 am spin class was cancelled, and I had evening plans, so evening yoga was out. But I managed a 20 minute walk at lunch. I would have gone further, but it’s just been too bloody hot and humid this week. Blech!
Thursday 07/28/16: 6 x 400 | 6 x 400
Another Thursday of re-setting my alarm instead of getting up to run. *sigh* Thankfully it wasn’t too hot, and a sprinkle of rain actually helped keep me cool. I did a 1 mile warm up, then 6 x 400 with 400 recoveries, and was remarkably consistent in my intervals. I LOVE interval workouts 🙂
Friday 07/29/16: Rest | Walk at Lunch
I did about 2.5 miles, I think.
Saturday 07/30/16: 3 Miles | 4 Miles @ 10:01 Pace
It was much cooler on Saturday morning than it has been in a while, so I took advantage and went a bit longer than scheduled. Then it was off to Crescent Lake for swimming, canoeing, and bonfires!
Sunday 07/31/16: 5k Race/Time Trial | Rest
We were at the lake house with my family and it was rainy, so we just played board games and ate until it was time to go home for grocery shopping, meal prep, and cleaning to prepare for the new week.
Weekly Mileage: 12
Total 2016 Mileage: 462.2
I’m still not doing so hot in fitting in my cross-training activities, but I’m already scheduled for a spin class this week, so I’m trying not to beat myself up about it. I’ve got the 100 on 100 relay in a couple of weeks and I’m feeling slightly under prepared, so I think I may split my long run this weekend into two shorter distance runs, just to get a feel for doing multiple short-to-medium distance runs in one day.
Sounds like you had a great week!! ❤
I did, thank you! So nice to see my family ❤
I ❤ intervals too!
Seriously, my favorite type of running.
Sounds like a great weekend – and as always I’ll say don’t beat yourself up too much, you’re juggling a lot of stuff and it is impossible to give 100% to everything all the time!
How is the food side of things going? That is another thing that is tough during the summer! It is always hard to stay on track, to know how much activity translates into the stuff we eat and so on … y’know?
The food side is challenging as always. I’ve been tracking with MFP on and off just to try to get a sense of how things are going. I may post about this, may not, but I’m actually considering consulting a nutritionist or RD because things aren’t awesome.
I remember how much you love interval runs! You were always like MORE MORE MORE
They’re seriously my favorite. Like, every run could be intervals and that’d be ok.
Looks like a pretty good week to me! Time at the lake – bonus! Breaking up your run will be great to get prepared for the relay. I’ve always wanted to do one of those.
Spending time with my family at the lake was definitely the icing on the cake 🙂
I’m an intervals fan too 🙂
They’re the best!
I miss interval runs! I hope I can add them back into my running soon. Even without cross training, it looks like a good week and family time is always the best right?
Now that marathon training is done, I bet you can get back to intervals soon!
