Friday Free-For-All – 04/14/17

Today is a quiet day at the office. Because it’s Good Friday, the stock market and our main offices are closed, so today is just sort of a “catch up on filing and paperwork” kind of day.

We had an egg hunt! Our company’s Culture Club organized an egg hunt, hiding one egg for each person somewhere in the office. Mine had a mini package of Haribo gummi bears and a scratch ticket. I didn’t win anything, but it was still fun, and a nice little touch.

Ben and I have to do our taxes tomorrow. We’ve both been so busy this winter/spring that this is pretty much the only day we’re both going to be home to put our heads together and figure it out. I just hope we don’t have to pay anything. A little bit of a refund would be nice, too, but I’m not holding my breath.

Does your office do anything fun to celebrate holidays?

Our company does Christmas decorations company-wide (we have ~12 distinct locations with more than 100 employees each just in the Corning area) … but other than that nothing formal. So for Easter there were a few decorations but nothing official – we have Good Friday ‘off’, but I am here, as are about half the people who normally work here 🙂

Love the idea of an egg hunt – we did more of those sorts of things when I worked for very small companies at the start of my career!

Yikes on taxes! We had ours all wrapped up in early February – I tend to do that every year – get TurboTax fired up early, start accumulating all my stuff and entering it bit-wise until I have it all. Last year was trickiest because of Lisa working 3 jobs in two states, including 401k and other benefits … this year should be much easier (unless we move to Boston! Yikes! Taxes the year we moved to Corning were enough of a nightmare – fortunately Corning paid for an accountant to handle taxes that year!)

    Happy Easter!

Taxes SHOULD be fairly straightforward, but I made quite a bit more this year than past years. I’m just glad I don’t have to deal with multiple states like I did when we moved to/from Boston-no fun at all! I usually like to have them wrapped up early, but there was just no time! Happy Easter to you and yours!

Ahh, the Easter Egg hunt sounds fun. Taxes can suck it. Someone filed a fraudulent tax return with my SSN so I couldn’t do anything until I could prove in person I was really me. Seriously?! I owe too, so it’s not like I even get a refund out of it.

Dude, that sucks so hard, I’m sorry! We ended up owing the federal government money, which also sucks. Hope everything gets straightened out soon!
