Training For: Stowe 8 Miler? (July 9)
Monday 05/29/17: Rest
After all-day wedding festivities on Sunday, I needed a day to recuperate. I met my friend Stacy for lunch and did some window shopping, then it was laundry, clean up, eat supper, go to bed.
Tuesday 05/30/17: CrossFit
It was another rainy day, so no lunch walk. The Strength WOD for CF was 7 x 1 deadlifts at 80% of 1 rep max (about 153 lbs for me), and the MetCon was a 10 minute AMRAP of 10 x medicine ball situps, 8 x sumo deadlift high pulls, 10 x medicine ball ab twists, and 8 x slam balls. I made it through 5 whole rounds and 10 situps before time.
Wednesday 005/31/17: Rest
I used my lunch break to schedule a few appointments, so no walk. And then there were crazy thunderstorms after work, so running was a no-go.
Thursday 06/01/17: 4.85 Mile Run
The plan was 8 x 400 (400 recoveries between) with a warm up and cool down. I started out feeling pretty good, but my stomach was NOT happy for the last three repeats. Still, I managed to finish, and this was my longest run since the Wine and Dine half back in November.
Friday 06/02/17: CrossFit
We did one of the lady workouts, Annie. This KILLED me and I’m still sore on Monday while writing this. It was a “special” Annie. 1 mile run + 50-40-30-20-10 double unders and situps. But we added 5 burpees at the beginning of each round, and finished with 50. Freaking. Burpees. Ugh. I managed to finish before the 30 minute time cap, but it was ugly.
Saturday 06/03/17: Rest
Crazy day! I slept in and tried to just relax in the morning. The it was off to our friend Pete’s bubble soccer birthday BBQ, our friends Nate and Alex’s housewarming party, and my friend Brad’s going away party. Twas a long day, but a good one. PS, if you’ve never seen bubble soccer be played, you are missing out on some HILARITY.
Sunday 06/04/17: 5 Mile Long Run
Holy crap, guys, I actually got in a long run! It was a bit hotter than I thought it was going to be, so that sucked, but I was really happy with my overall pace of 10:26.
Not a bad week for the first week of my “I might be running a race.. but also maybe not” training plan. I’m mostly just trying to be more consistent, and having a plan helps. Unfortunately the weather in VT continues to be chilly and rainy, which makes lunchtime runs difficult. I’m hoping that I can just suck it up and either a) get outside between showers or b) head to Planet Fitness and rock some treadmill runs.
How has your weather been lately? Ours has been AWFUL.
What a crazy busy week! Your Saturday sounds stressful instead of relaxing – too many things to deal with all at once!
The weather has been bizarre – and we have been ~1 day ahead of Boston for recent patterns so when we had a great Saturday I was happy that moved east for Sunday. Yesterday was crappy, today was warm and humid but with thunderstorms on the way. No wonder everyone keeps getting sick 🙂
Yeah, my last couple of weekends have had a lot more going on than I would normally like. Thankfully, this weekend looks pretty good, other than the stress of my audition.
Glad to hear you’re back at it. Someday I’d like to run Stowe. Heard it was pretty.
Ever run Maple Leaf Half?
Stowe is absolutely gorgeous! And I haven’t run the Maple Leaf half, but I’ve considered it a couple of times. The Lake Champlain Islands are beautiful!
Maybe another year.
What on earth is bubble soccer? Nice long run! Our weather has been bouncing between gray and cold and freakin’ hot. I can’t acclimate it changes so often.
Bubble soccer is when you get dressed up in giant plastic bubbles and play soccer, so you can check each other and fall down and roll and not get hurt. It’s HILARIOUS.
