Training For: Charlotte Covered Bridges Half?
What Was Planned vs What Actually Happened
Monday 08/14/17: CrossFit | CrossFit
I was horrendously hung over due to a few too many glasses of wine at my work BBQ on Sunday, but by 4:30 I felt human enough to go to class. Shout out to my coworkers for leaving muffins and leftover pizza in the kitchen. I couldn’t have recovered without snacks.
Tuesday 08/15/17: 5k Run | Active Rest
As part of our Volunteer Week at work, I spent the whole morning sanding and painting at a local treehouse. Between that and Monday’s CF workout, I was exhausted and sore, so I opted not to run.
Wednesday 08/16/17: CrossFit | CrossFit
Our Strength WOD was a 10 minute EMOM of snatch complexes, which was brutal. And then we did 30-20-10 of pistol squats, push-ups, and pull-ups, with a 1 mile run to finish.
Thursday 08/17/17: 5 Mile Run | 4 Mile Run
It was a gorgeous evening and I felt great, but unfortunately, I’ve been experiencing some niggling pain in my right foot this week, which became more than just a niggle during this run.
Friday 08/18/17: CrossFit | CrossFit
The SWOD was 3 rounds of 250m row + 10 burpees, and then building to 1RM squat cleans. After that it was a MetCon of box jumps, handstand walks (or plank walks in my case), and chest-to-bar pull-ups (or ring rows in my case). I was a sweaty, shaky mess at the end.
Saturday 08/19/17: Rest | Rest
I had intended to do my long run this day, but the pain in my right foot still hadn’t gone away, and I was reluctant to attempt a long run when my foot hurt just walking around.
Sunday 08/20/17: 10 Mile Run | Rest
The foot pain persisted, and I just didn’t feel like pushing it. I’d rather take a few days off and be able to go to CF than push a long run and be sidelined all week.
Overall: That’s two weeks in a row of going to three CrossFit classes, woohoo! I also ran once, which is great, even though I’d have liked to get in a long run. I think the pain in my foot is due to the fact that we’ve been doing a lot of running in CF lately, but the shoes that I’m wearing for CF are 4+ years old and have pretty much zero cushion. I’m planning to hit up Dick’s Sporting Goods after work some day this week to get some new CF shoes, so hopefully the foot issue will go away and I can get back to regular training.
I’m still on the fence about whether or not I’ll actually run the half on September 9. Part of me is really eager to get out there and run a half marathon for time, which I haven’t done in about 3 years. But the other part of me REALLY doesn’t want to pay the $50 registration fee. We’ll see which side wins out.
Any recommendations for a good, reasonably-priced CrossFit shoe? They all seem to be $100+…
For the first time ever, I’m linking up with the Weekly Wrap, by MissSippiPiddlin and HoHo Runs. Check out the linkup and enjoy the fun!
Great week – way to go!
Thanks, Anna! Hopefully I can keep up the momentum 🙂
Ouch – hope it is just discomfort from bad shoes! Be careful, don’t want a real injury 😦
Decent athletic shoes are just too darned expensive – but they really make a difference, so I try to keep mine in good shape and rotate them.
Also – great job getting to CF this week!
I am with you on the struggle about races – I am too cheap to easily spend the money, and even when I strongly consider it, there always seems to be something more important!
Seriously, athletic shoes are STUPID expensive. It seems like one can’t get a decent shoe for less than $100 these days. Ugh.
Great job getting to your CrossFit classes! Hope your foot issue goes away!
Thank you, me too!
Wow great job! I’ve never tried cross fit!!
Oh man, I LOVE it! I know it’s not for everyone, but it really works for me 🙂
Glad you listened to your body and skipped that long run! Hope your foot feels better soon x
Oh thank you, me too! I got some new CF shoes yesterday, which will hopefully help going forward.
Welcome to the Weekly Wrap, Rae! By the way, I’m now singing that Bangle’s song. I hope your foot is better soon. But, as someone who has had way too many foot problems — I hope you’ll have it checked if it doesn’t stop hurting. I’ve heard a lot of good things about CrossFit. Three sessions would have me unable to move. 😉 Great job on that! We hope you will join us again next week!
Thank you so much! I have had intermittent foot issues as long as I’ve been running, so I’m definitely being cautious, and will be sure to get it checked out if it doesn’t start feeling better after some rest and switching shoes.
