Friday Free-For-All – 01/05/18

Things are still moving forward on the house. We were thrown yet another curveball this week, but I think we’re still on track. At worst, we may have to push back closing a few days, which is not the end of the world. Keep those fingers crossed!

In spite of the crazy snowstorm and cold temps, I braved a night out with some friends last night. Stacy moved to Albany this past spring, but she was in town for work, so she, Abbie and I got together at the little “bistro” at the hotel where Stacy was staying. It was SO GOOD to see my friends, even if my drive home was a little hairy.

After all the holidays and visitors we’ve had, I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend. Of course, having Emily, Leah, and Jirka home for the holidays was awesome, but it meant we had a VERY full house and not a lot of quiet time. I want to sleep in and do lots of relaxing.

This week, I received one of the most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever gotten. My aunt Lisa (dad’s sister) put together a beautiful binder of family recipes. From her, my Aunt Sherri, my Grammy, and my Great Grammy. Some of the recipes are even photo copies of hand-written originals straight from Grammy’s kitchen! Almost every essential is in there, from bread to pie crust to fudge and beyond. I can’t wait until we have our own kitchen again so I can get cooking!

What’s the most thoughtful gift you’ve ever received?

Hehe, my Grammy was and my Auntie is VERY into cooking and baking. Also, to be fair, many of these recipes aren’t really “theirs” either, just ones they always use. But it’s still pretty awesome πŸ™‚

That is a wonderful gift! We have actually done that for a couple of people in the past – not sure how it got used, but was nice to do a recipe book with some family recipes and room to expand.

For me, Lisa has done a few things – but perhaps the coolest was taking photos and newspaper clippings from a ‘rock murder mystery musical comedy’ myself and the other guys in my high school band wrote and was staged by an area high school (none of us went there, but the director was the singer’s father πŸ™‚ ). It was really fun, we got a ‘gala premiere’ and everything, put loads of money into the school drama department. She took all of that stuff and got it all framed up and it hangs up on the wall in my ‘music area’ of the basement.

Hope everything goes well with the house! As for the cold … yeah, not a fan. Sure I run in it, but looking forward to more ‘normal’ temperatures next week!

Aw, that’s a very thoughtful, sweet gift! Yeah, this cold and snow… If I could just stay home it would be awesome, but commuting to work is no fun at all.

Fingers crossed for your house situation! And what a lovely gift from your aunt! The thoughtful gift that came to mind first for me was when my dad printed all the IM conversations we had while I was studying abroad and put them into a little book, so I could go back and remember little details I’d told him about at the time but would otherwise probably forget. That was pretty cool πŸ™‚
