Friday Free-For-All

Remember that commercial I shot a couple of weeks ago? It’s live! It’s been airing during the Olympics and I’ve had a bunch of friends texting me about it. It’s a SUPER quick segment (literally only 15 seconds long), but I had a lot of fun filming. If you’re interested, you can check it out by clicking here.

Ben and I did something unusual for Valentine’s Day. We bought each other a couch! We’ve never really been super into the forced celebration of Valentine’s Day, but we decided it would be fun to buy a real couch for our new house instead of spending money on junk we don’t need. We’ve been using an old, lumpy futon that we got free from his parents, and it was time to upgrade.ย  We ended up investing in a really nice Flexsteel sectional. They were having a 20% off sale and the frame comes with a lifetime warranty, so we feel really good about it. And there’s a CHAISE on one end! Helloooo, relaxation! Unfortunately, it may take up to 10 weeks to actually be delivered. Boo.

I went to prenatal yoga this week! Real talk: I haven’t been to CrossFit since December, and I haven’t run/walked/otherwise worked out since early January. Pregnancy is rough guys! But I’m starting to feel a bit gross, so I’m making a commitment to get my body moving more, and prenatal yoga is just the ticket! I’ve been experiencing a lot of round ligament pain, and things have been just a wee bit stressful lately, so it felt incredible to just relax and stretch out my body.

We celebrated my four year anniversary at work this week. Holy crap! I simply can’t believe it’s been that long! The customary anniversary gift is a nice bottle of wine, but since I’m preggo, I got a really fancy bottle of olive oil instead. This was super handy, as we didn’t have any cooking oil at the new house yet. Even though I’m really happy with my decision to stay home and raise our daughter after she’s born, I’m going to miss the heck out of my colleagues.

How long have you been at your job? Do they do anniversary celebrations?

Love the idea of buying the couch! We have always done stuff for Valentineโ€™s Day … it falls pretty much right on our 6 month anniversary, so starting just after we got married it was a great half-year celebration … but seriously try to avoid all of the hype and big money buys.

Many years we would do stuff after the kids went to bed … or if we wanted to go out it would be all four of us (apparently we did that three years ago according to TimeHop. This year my parents had given us a restaurant gift card (the boys picked the place since my parent have no clue about the area and have been here once in the 10 years we have lived here) … so it was a nice treat to dress up and go out. After tip and the $100 gift card we still paid >$80 … nice place but definitely over-priced.

Work anniversaries are a funny thing – I am coming up on 10 years at Corning next month. Not sure anyone will say anything, not really worried about it. The company gives bonus vacation, which is great. As for the rest, it is really if someone notices it on LinkedIn ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh – and the commercial cracked me up! Definitely pregnant there! ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope the prenatal yoga helps! I tried it unsuccessfully, but I’ve never been good at yoga so I wasn’t really surprised. The instructor I had was weird too, and I’ve found that makes a huge difference for me.

Last summer was my 11th(!) anniversary at work. They do a staff appreciation breakfast every year and celebrate people who’ve been there 10, 20, 30, and 40 years. I missed my 10 year shindig because I was on maternity leave, but I got a little pin and a certificate, plus an extra week of vacation, which was the best part ๐Ÿ™‚
