Friday Free-For-All – 06/16/17

I was not cast in the professional show I auditioned for last weekend. Honestly, it’s just fine with me. I knew going in that it was a long shot, as I’m technically too young or too old for any of the roles. It was more about taking a good opportunity to be seen by a company I’d always wanted to work with than actually thinking I might get in. And having worked on two shows in a row through the spring and summer, I know I’ll be glad for the break from rehearsals. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll keep me in mind for future shows.

This cold really derailed my week. I missed two scheduled runs and two CF classes, not to mention a day at work. Blergh. It’s looking more and more like I made the right choice in deciding not to register for the Stowe 8-Miler too far in advance. At this point, it seems unlikely I will be running it.

I’m currently obsessed with the TV show Once Upon a Time. I know I’m really late to the party on this one, but I LOVE it. After I finished watching Buffy, I needed a new guilty-pleasure binge watch, and Once Upon a Time fits the bill perfectly. I will be the first to admit it’s not perfect (inconsistent timelines and plot holes abound), but one thing is bugging the crap out of me: no matter where they are or what’s going on (war, destruction, camping in the jungles of Neverland for five days), Mary Margaret and Emma ALWAYS have perfect winged eyeliner. I’m sorry, I call BULLSHIT on that. Not possible. But I will continue to watch anyway. Because FAIRYTALES!

Someone recently found my blog with the search term “hangry,” and it couldn’t tickle me more. I’m always happy to know I’m not the only one who suffers from the debilitating effects of this horrific condition. Maybe we should start a support group…

What TV show are you currently loving?

Friday Free-For-All (Fifteen)

Welcome to Friday Free-For-All, where I talk about anything and everything on my mind.  This is usually just a great big brain dump, so brace yourselves!

FULL DISCLOSURE:  This is a sad post.  I’m wallowing.  I’ll be ok.  We will return to regularly scheduled happy-go-lucky programming as soon as possible.

I am le tired.  There are many, many reasons for this, but none I really want to talk about anymore.  Suffice to say, I’m done with this week.  Physically, emotionally, and in all other ways, D-O-N-E.  I wish I were a black bear and could hibernate for the next 4-6 months and wake up and already be married and not have had to go through any more of the attendant drama.  I’m done.

I get to see my mama and go wedding dress shopping tomorrow.  That’s pretty much what’s getting me through today.  I need some mom hugs and fancy dresses and people telling me I’m pretty.

I skipped my 4 mile run last night.  Long story short, I just didn’t feel like it.  I’m going to make it up tonight, which should make my long run of 8 miles tomorrow interesting.  Maybe I’ll move it to Sunday?

I had to wear my winter coat this morning.  There was a hard, killing frost last night in Underhill, VT, and it was 32 degrees when I left the house.  It’s September 20.  Whhhhyyy?  Don’t get me wrong, I love fall, I love winter, I love all the seasons, which is one of the reasons I love living in New England so much.  But freezing temps in September is just plain wrong.

What is your favorite stress management technique?  I could use a few right now.

What style was your wedding dress, or what do you want for a wedding dress?

Did you get freezing cold temps last night too?

Struggle Bus

That’s right folks, I’m riding the Struggle Bus this morning.

Ben has had a nasty cold for the last week or so, and my body is finally succumbing.  Booo.  I could tell when I woke up yesterday that it was coming.  I was extra tired and my sinuses felt icky.  But I pushed through the day and actually made it out for my 3 miles.  Which, in retrospect, was probably a bad idea.  It was damp and cool and I was feeling really grouchy.  The good news, however, is that I pulled out 2.9 miles in 26.33, which means that I might actually be able to pull off a sub-30 minute 5k at Light the Night in a couple of weeks, so that’s pretty cool!

The second not-so-smart thing I did last night is wait 30 minutes in the damp and cold to get my free cone for Ben & Jerry’s free cone day.  The line was ridiculously long, and we were stuck behind a bunch of obnoxious little kids who kept wandering in and out of line.  But honestly, free ice cream was worth it.  Especially Americone Dream.  Mmmmm.

We ended up going to bed at quarter of 10 last night, but I did NOT sleep well.  One of the surest indicators that I’m actually sick and not just suffering from allergies is that I don’t sleep for crap when I’m sick, and last night was no exception.  I was up, tossing and turning, pretty much every hour.  It was miserable.  And I woke up with full-blown congestion this morning.

I’m planning to take it easy today and hydrate like crazy.  I was supposed to go out for a “Ladies’ Night” tonight to see Divergent, but I think I’m gonna bail and just go home and go to bed.  I’ve got a long run scheduled on Saturday morning that I don’t want to miss, and then we’re headed to RI for the Great American Brewer’s Festival.  I do NOT want to be sick and miss out on delicious beer and a weekend with my friends.

Do you run when you’re sick?
