Weekend Update -Seafood Extravaganza!

Happy Monday, all! I hope your weekend was as good as mine, because it is definitely helping to buoy my spirits today. Everyone in the fam got to stay home today except for me, my commute blew because of snow, and then I dumped my entire Dunkin Donuts coffee moments after arriving at work. It’s been a doozy of a Monday already, and it’s not even 9 am…

Friday
Friday night was pretty full–CrossFit from 5-6, rehearsal from 6:45-10, and post-rehearsal drinks until a bit later than I would have liked, but it was too fun to pass up. Sometimes you just need to eat french fries and nurse a vodka and soda until 11:30 pm. Ben actually texted me all worried because I NEVER stay out that late, haha!

Saturday
I slept in until almost ten, then loafed around for a bit, reading, sipping coffee, and eating breakfast. After that, it was time to clean house. I vacuumed the first and second floors, did laundry, and cleaned our room, then played video games for a bit, and read some more until company arrived.

Earlier in the week, my father in law had sent out a group text that he would be going to Maine this weekend, and bringing back whatever we wanted for what he called “Seafood Extravaganza.” We invited a bunch of family friends over, everyone ordered whatever they desired, and we just ate delicious, fresh-caught oysters, lobster, and steamed clams all night. Oh, and of course, had some libations as well.

Sunday
I got up pretty early on Sunday considering two late nights in a row. I was feeling overtired and a little headachey–it turns out that seafood isn’t a great base for drinking. Oops! After some breakfast and some coffee, though, I was right as rain. I did some meal prep stuff for the week, put away my clean laundry, and read until it was time to go to rehearsal.

The promised snowstorm had already arrived, so it was slow going, but I made it into town without incident and had a fun dance rehearsal. Due to the snow, they ended up releasing us an hour early, which was great, considering that my commute is one of the longest. It also worked out well because we were having company for supper, so I was able to get home in time to help clean up and make food.

We had some fresh steamed shrimp (held back from seafood extravaganza) as an appetizer, and had homemade chicken curry with winter root vegetable slaw for the main meal.

Right before our guests arrived, Ben got the phone call that he had a snow day today, so the evening had a somewhat celebratory air, even though I sadly didn’t get a snow day. I went to bed promptly at 10:15, but Ben stayed up reading for a while since he didn’t have to get up for work today. Color me jealous.

How many of you had a snow day today? I really regret not using a vacation day and just staying home…

Friday Free-For-All – 01/15/16

FFFA (1)

I have a busy weekend ahead! Saturday holds a 5k time trial, a show, and a party, woohoo! I’ll try to get my run done in the morning, and then I’m performing a guest role in a Carpenter’s tribute show in the evening. I’m wearing a whore red 70’s style jumpsuit and it’s awesome. And then it’s my friend/coworker/gym buddy Freda’s annual January Thaw party. Sunday is yoga and a four hour rehearsal and possibly another comedy show. I’m tired already…

We had a delicious seafood dinner with Ben’s parents last night. While we were visiting last weekend, John mentioned that he was going to Maine for a conference and that he was planning to bring back a load of fresh seafood. When he offered me lobster, oysters, AND clams, there was no way I was saying no! Of course, we stayed out too late and I’m pretty tired today, but it was worth it.

I get an extra paid holiday on Monday. Originally our office was supposed to be open, but because all major stock exchanges are closed on Monday, as well as our corporate offices, management decided to close our branch for the day too. WOOOHOOO! That almost never happens. AND I don’t have rehearsal, so I have an entire day with nothing scheduled. I’m DELIGHTED.

My company is starting the Whole Life Challenge tomorrow. You may remember a month or two ago I tried to do a pseudo-WLC on my own, and it didn’t go well. I plan to do a larger post on this next week, but basically, it can’t hurt to try, and my company is paying for it, so why not?

Who else has Monday off? Any fun plans?

Manic Monday – 07/14/14

Welcome to another edition of Manic Monday, where I recap the previous week, and set out a plan for the upcoming week.

I don’t have much to report today.  As I mentioned on Friday, I haven’t run in about 2 weeks.  The good news is, I’ve been keeping up with riding my bike to and from work every day, and I started a 30-day plank challenge on July 1.  I haven’t been keeping up with it as much as I’d like, but it’s definitely helping to keep me a bit more active than I might be otherwise.

Monday

Biked to work (~3.8 miles), and 1 minute plank.  I got a ride home from Ben because we needed to go to the grocery store.

Tuesday

Biked to and from work (~7.5 miles), and 1 minute 10 second plank.

Wednesday

Biked to and from work (~7.5 miles), and 1 minute 15 second plank.  After work, I met some coworkers at a really great open air bar/club on the waterfront called Breakwaters.  One of my coworkers is in a band, and they were playing.  I had a couple of drinks and nibbled some sweet potato fries and nachos.  Yum!

Thursday

Biked to and from work (~7.5 miles), and 1 minute 25 second plank

Friday

Lots of walking and swimming at the family reunion

Saturday

Lots of walking, swimming, and seafood at the family reunion 😀

Sunday

Lots of driving and bad food on the way home 😦

I would do a recap of the reunion, but every day was pretty formulaic:

Wake up early because sun is shining on tent and I’m roasting.  Walk 1/2 mile to pond.  Swim.  Walk 1/2 mile back.  Coffee.  Brunch.  Walk 1/2 mile to pond.  Swim.  Walk 1/2 mile back.  Snack/nap/chat/squirt gun fight/help around the farm.  Walk 1/2 mile to pond.  Swim.  Walk 1/2 mile back.  Dinner.  Several beers.  Rubber band war (rubber bands from lobster claws are AWESOME).  Sleep.  Repeat.

I’m really excited to be home.  Miraculously, Ben and I get to spend the next two weekends in a row at home.  We have a few activities planned, but it will be nice not to travel.  I’m hoping to get back into a routine here–the last few weeks have been a bit crazy.  I want to re-focus on eating better, and get back to regular running and cross-training.  In tomorrow’s post, I’ll share my plan for how I hope the next few weeks will go as I decide what fall half I’ll be running.

How was your weekend?
