Weekend Update – Quickie

Happy Monday, my friends! I don’t know about you, but coming back to work after a glorious four-day weekend was a rude awakening for me. I originally intended to do a nice long weekend recap, but basically I just don’t have the energy for it. Also, all of my days were some variation of: sleep in, eat food, play video games, go to sleep, which doesn’t make for very compelling reading.

I did go for my first run in a month, and we did some socialization as well, but for the most part, stuck around home. We got a few inches of lovely, fluffy snow on Saturday night, and a few more last night, so I am now officially in the holiday spirit!

I hope you all had a great break, and that your Monday isn’t too tough!

Not much news on the house front. We submitted an amended offer that included a one month housing contingency, and the seller’s team has until 5 pm today to sign. I’m not holding my breath right now. Having them sign would be a great first step, but I remain skeptical that they’ll be able to find suitable housing for the seller in one month. You never know, but I’m just not letting myself get excited right now. Patience and calm are key.

I am pretty much living for Thanksgiving break right now. As usual, I have a four day weekend, and I can’t wait to just chill out, eat delicious food, drink delicious drinks, and enjoy family time. Ben and I alternate Thanksgiving celebrations between our families, and this is our year to be with Ben’s family. This means we get to just hang out at home and not worry about packing, driving, and sleeping in someone else’s bed. Perfection!

Now that it’s dark at 5 pm and after work runs are off the table, I’m enjoying the recumbent bike at home again. It had been collecting dust for a while, but now it’s my best option for staying active on days when I just don’t feel like going to CrossFit. And since it’s at home, I can use wi-fi and watch my shows on Netflix, which helps the time go by.

Our 3rd wedding anniversary is next week! Since it’s Thanksgiving week, we are going to celebrate early by going out to dinner on Sunday night. I received a gift card to a great local restaurant for my work on the company’s United Way campaign, so dinner shouldn’t cost us a dime. Score!

We got three inches of snow last night! Of course, our totals are somewhat elevated due to the fact that we live basically on the side of a mountain, but it was SO lovely to wake up to. Now if the rest of the area would just catch up! I’d much rather look at snow than mud and sticks.

How excited are you for Thanksgiving?

Why does buying a house have to be so damn complicated and stressful? Long story short, we put in an offer on a house Monday night, and should have had an answer Wednesday morning. Things are more complicated than they first appeared, and as of this writing, we still do not have an answer one way or the other. It sounds like things should become clear soon, but DAMN this is killing us!

I am SO GRATEFUL for electricity and running water. Due to the wind storm, we didn’t have power or running water at home from Sunday night through Wednesday afternoon. You never realize just how much you take things like that for granted until they are gone. And we’re actually among the lucky ones, as I have some friends who still don’t have power!

I’m home alone this weekend. Sadly, Ben’s Uncle Lou passed away last week, and the memorial service is in upstate New York this weekend. Due to a lack of vacation time, I opted to stay home. While I’ll miss seeing Ben’s extended family and saying goodbye to Uncle Lou, me staying home means that we don’t have to hire a pet sitter for the weekend, so I’m trying to look on the bright side. This memorial will also likely be Irish wake style, so I’m saving my liver some damage as well.

My office now has a shiny red Swingline stapler. Yep, just like Milton from Office Space. Apparently, the office manager got it free with her order of something else, and you’d better believe I pounced on it immediately. It gives me SO MUCH JOY.

Catch me giving this look to anyone who tries to “borrow” my stapler.

Do you have a favorite piece of office decor/equipment?

My in-laws ordered a recumbent stationary bike. This is HUGE! It means that I can actually exercise in the comfort and relative privacy of my own home! It’s no secret that I haven’t been digging running as much lately, so having an in-home option for cardio will be great, and will hopefully help to keep me active this winter. Being able to pull up my Netflix queue while pedaling away will certainly make the time go by faster.

I quit Athleta and I’m dropping out of my jazz dance class, both as of the first week of December. I’ve been feeling WAY too busy lately, and with the holiday season looming, I knew I needed to take a big step back and just chill out for a bit. This fall ended up being a lot busier and more stressful than I anticipated, and I’m looking forward to just having more time to be at home with Ben or hanging out with friends, especially because IF I get cast in 9 to 5 (fingers and toes crossed!), I will be in rehearsals four nights a week from January through early April. I will miss my class, and I will definitely miss my colleagues from Athleta, but I need to do this for the sake of my mental health.

WE BOOKED TICKETS TO THE BAHAMAS! Finally! Ben’s aunt and uncle own a house on the island of Eleuthera, and we have been trying to get our shit together to get down there for years. YEARS! So we finally bit the bullet and bought tickets for February break. I am positively giddy with excitement. Eleuthera is a smaller, less-touristy island, and because we’re staying at his aunt and uncle’s place, our only expenses will be airfare, food, and drink. I’m planning to spend most of my time just sitting on my butt, reading, drinking, and relaxing.

I can’t freaking believe Thanksgiving is next week. How did this happen? I feel like just yesterday it was spring and now it’s Thanksgiving?! This year we’ll be with my parents down in Quechee, and I have a full four days off from work, which will be heavenly. Also, because of the holiday, I don’t work at Athleta at all and I don’t have any dance classes, so my evenings are all my own, hooray! Also, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will be released on Friday, and you KNOW I’ll be binge-watching that while hopefully scoring some black Friday deals online. I’m gonna finally bite the bullet and buy myself a Chromebook so I can stop stealing Ben’s.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I’m ready for the break if nothing else…

FFFA (1)

Two day work week next week! Ben and I are travelling with his parents to his mom’s sister’s husband’s family farm (say that 5 times fast!) in Starrucca, PA. It will be a lot of driving, but I think it will be a lot of fun too. And of course, I never turn down a short work week. My office gives us Thanksgiving and Black Friday off anyway, so I used my last vacation day for the year to take Wednesday off as well. I was hoping to find a Turkey Trot in the area, but no dice. I’ll have to just go for a pre-Turkey run on my own.

Our one year wedding anniversary is Sunday. I truly can’t believe it’s already been a year since we said “I do.” It’s been a crazy busy year, full of lots of changes and adventures, and I’m so glad to be sharing it all with Ben.

I will be participating in the Runner’s World Holiday Run Streak. This is something that I wanted to do last year, but I hurt my foot and was out of commission for 6 weeks. It was one of my goals for 2015, and I’m actually pretty excited to get started. I’ve never attempted a streak before, but I plan to approach this in a very cautious and realistic way. I will be focusing big-time on recovery efforts like stretching and rolling, and if at any point I feel overtired or like I might be approaching injury, I will back off no problem. Being healthy and whole for the start of marathon training in January is much more important than an arbitrary running streak. But If I make sure I have lots of low mileage days in there and stay vigilant about recovery, I’m sure I’ll be ok.

Tonight will be my first night “off” this week. Every single night this week, I’ve had a commitment; Monday I had my sister over for dinner and movies, Tuesday I had a rehearsal, Wednesday was tap class, and Thursday night I had a babysitting gig. Tonight after work, I may (or may not) run, and then I will put on my PJs, pour myself a few fingers of bourbon, and park it in front of the TV with a bowl of popcorn. Ahhhh, heaven.

Did you have a busy week?

Anyone else planning to do the #RWRunStreak?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today Ben and I are celebrating our first major holiday as husband and wife.  It’s weird, but cool.  We’re down in Quechee with my family, watching football and watching our waistlines expand before our very eyes.

I know it’s become almost cliche to post/write/talk about things you’re thankful for on this day, but I really have SO MUCH to be thankful for this year.  So in no particular order, I’m just gonna mention a few of the things on my mind today.

  1. My husband (still can’t get used to saying/typing that!), Ben.  He is so smart, funny and kind.  He is a perfect foil to my craziness and I can’t imagine my life without him.  I’m so excited for the lifetime of adventures we have ahead of us.
  2. My zany family.  While we are ridiculously close, we can also drive each other crazy with the best of them.  But when the chips are down, we’re there for each other, 100%.  This has been a pretty tough year for my family for a variety of reasons, and I’m so glad we’ve been able to rally the troops and come through it like champs.
  3. My in-laws.  Not many people can live with their in-laws for an extended period of time and feel lucky about it, but I do.  My adopted family has welcomed me with such love and enthusiasm, and the fact that they’ve generosity let us live with them has allowed Ben to follow his heart and go back to school full time.  Also, my new sisters are way cooler than me, and so much fun.  I feel so blessed that they are part of my life.
  4. My “real life” friends (I use this qualifier because I’m going to talk about my online friends in a minute).  Over the years, Ben and I have collected a diverse, eclectic, wonderful group of friends.  We eat, we drink, we hike, we rock climb, we watch movies, we laugh, we eat some more…  It’s awesome to know that we’ve got such excellent people in our lives to spend time with.
  5. My online friends, particularly my Chewsday Chicas/Team Can-Am.  I always used to be incredibly skeptical of my little sisters’ “friends” that they met online.  I didn’t understand how one could feel so close to or care so deeply about someone they’d never actually met, but now I totally get it.  I had no idea when I started this blog that it would open up a world of caring, talented people that would come to be my friends.  Yes, friends, even though I may never have seen their faces in person.  We’ve talked almost every single day without fail since June, and I can’t wait until we’re all together for Wine and Dine 2015!
  6. My job.  You’ve all heard me gush about my office and my coworkers before, so I’ll simply sum up and say that even though this job may not be a forever job, these people make every day worth getting out of my nice soft bed, and I am SO grateful for them.
  7. My cat.  I know it’s silly, but Creemee is a special cat.  She’s sweet, friendly, and snuggly, and just looking at her cute little face can snap me out of a deep funk.  She’s my little furbaby and I love her just as much as a lot of humans (and more than some other humans).
  8. Running.  I’ve always dabbled in running in the past, but I feel like this year I really became a “runner.”  It gets me outside, it calms my brain, and it gives me confidence.  While I’m sidelined right now with stupid foot pain, I know I’ll be back at it as soon as I’m healthy, and I can’t wait!
  9. YOU!  My blog readers.  Thank you for coming back each week and reading all of my ridiculous trials and adventures.  Thanks for commenting, for following on Insta and Twitter, and making my little bloggy-blog feel so loved!

What are YOU thankful for?
