Friday Free-For-All

My orchid is blooming! A few weeks ago I mentioned that it had buds, but I wasn’t sure whether or not it would open. Well, I’ve officially got one flower, and it’s beautiful! Yay!

Three-day weekend coming up! Ben decided to take a personal day on Monday, so we have a three-day weekend, and it’s jam-packed. Friend visits, birthday parties, and visits to indoor water parks, ahoy! I can’t wait to put Vera in a little bathing suit ❤

Valentine’s Day was super low-key for us. Vera and I went out for a Galentine’s lunch with my girlfriend Nikki and her son, and then Ben and I did a simple gift exchange. I got him ointment for his dry, cracked winter hands, and he got me Sour Patch Kids and herbed goat cheese. We wrapped up the evening watching Archer in bed and going lights out at 9 pm. #romance

Are you a green thumb, or a black thumb, like me?

Friday Free-For-All

Remember that commercial I shot a couple of weeks ago? It’s live! It’s been airing during the Olympics and I’ve had a bunch of friends texting me about it. It’s a SUPER quick segment (literally only 15 seconds long), but I had a lot of fun filming. If you’re interested, you can check it out by clicking here.

Ben and I did something unusual for Valentine’s Day. We bought each other a couch! We’ve never really been super into the forced celebration of Valentine’s Day, but we decided it would be fun to buy a real couch for our new house instead of spending money on junk we don’t need. We’ve been using an old, lumpy futon that we got free from his parents, and it was time to upgrade.  We ended up investing in a really nice Flexsteel sectional. They were having a 20% off sale and the frame comes with a lifetime warranty, so we feel really good about it. And there’s a CHAISE on one end! Helloooo, relaxation! Unfortunately, it may take up to 10 weeks to actually be delivered. Boo.

I went to prenatal yoga this week! Real talk: I haven’t been to CrossFit since December, and I haven’t run/walked/otherwise worked out since early January. Pregnancy is rough guys! But I’m starting to feel a bit gross, so I’m making a commitment to get my body moving more, and prenatal yoga is just the ticket! I’ve been experiencing a lot of round ligament pain, and things have been just a wee bit stressful lately, so it felt incredible to just relax and stretch out my body.

We celebrated my four year anniversary at work this week. Holy crap! I simply can’t believe it’s been that long! The customary anniversary gift is a nice bottle of wine, but since I’m preggo, I got a really fancy bottle of olive oil instead. This was super handy, as we didn’t have any cooking oil at the new house yet. Even though I’m really happy with my decision to stay home and raise our daughter after she’s born, I’m going to miss the heck out of my colleagues.

How long have you been at your job? Do they do anniversary celebrations?

Remember that sports bra I got last year for review, and loved? The one from Lynx Sportswear? Well, I just ordered another one in a different style and let me tell you, it’s AMAZEBALLS. I’m not sure if it’s just the different style, or if there have been overall improvements to the design, but they pretty much addressed every single one of my “cons” and it’s now the perfect sports bra for me. Up until recently, I only had the one that was good for running, so having two feels like a luxury. I may need to get another one, though, because it really is so amazing. Busty ladies, GET YOURSELVES A LYNX SPORTS BRA. Your boobies will thank you.

Valentine’s Day is this Sunday. I’ve always had very mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day. When I was single, it was a shitty reminder of how single I was. In my first serious relationship, he took the holiday very seriously, whereas I was leery of the forced “celebration” of our love. With Ben, we started out doing the whole traditional fancy dinner date thing, but as the years have gone on, we’ve become a lot more pragmatic about the whole thing. If we celebrate at all, we do a dinner not on the actual holiday itself so that we don’t have to worry about crowds. This year, though, I think we’re finally just saying, “Screw it.” We don’t need a manufactured holiday in order to recognize how much we love and appreciate each other. We don’t need the stress or expense of buying each other more junk or going out for a fancy dinner. We’ll probably just get takeout and watch Firefly or something.

Our office has been under construction for the last two weeks. For the most part, construction noises don’t bother me, and the construction is to improve/expand our kitchen/break area, so I’m generally very happy it’s happening. Unfortunately, a lot of the construction is happening near, around, or even IN my personal office, so it’s been tough at times to be productive and focused. Plus, our office is in a shambles. Theoretically, the construction will be done by the time Tuesday rolls around, which will be a relief.

I only have to work one day next week! Monday is a holiday and our office is closed. I work Tuesday, and then my colleague/gym buddy Freda and I are off to St. Petersburg, Florida for a conference at our corporate offices for the rest of the week. I’m excited for sunshine, warmer temps, and being away from the office for a bit. I’m also super excited because we get to see the Broadway tour of Book of Mormon while we’re there, and hopefully do some outlet shopping as well.

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Who else has a three day weekend??

Friday Free-For-All – 02/13/15

The weather for tomorrow’s race is not looking super awesome. In fact, it looks pretty yucky. Cold, cold, cold! Thankfully it’s a 5k, which means that I’ll be done in about 35 minutes and can warm up with hot chocolate and crepes.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I work for a great company. This little gem was waiting on my desk this morning–a small packet of roasted almonds and a few chocolate treats. Not so much sugar to be damaging, but enough for a little afternoon pick me up.

CRISPY M&M’S ARE BACK! Those of you who follow me on Instagram saw this yesterday, but it’s worth saying again: I am SO happy that Crispy M&M’s are back. Everyone knows they’re the best flavor (followed closely by almond, and then plain), and they never should have gone away in the first place. They better stick around this time. My heart can’t take losing them again.
